Panel Card Data

There are 81 individual panels that comprise the non-duplicated portion of the cards in the 1962 Post cereal football card promotion. Duplicated panel totals are added to the more common brand's panel totals, i.e. Crispy Critters are added to Alpha-Bits, Top 3 to Grape Nuts Flakes and Post Toasties 12 oz. top flap and pour spout versions are combined. The 81 panels are made up of 412 individual cards. A card sample size of 16,706 is enough to draw some conclusions, one of which is that even at that sample size comparing low demand card totals with high demand cards is inequitable. Further, factor in that many low demand cards weren't counted because they were part of lots and one quickly understands that raw individual card sales numbers is an inadequate method on which to base exact scarcity conclusions.

A better approach might be to combine the individual cards from each panel into totals for all 81 panels. The following table shows counts for each panel sorted by count— shown on the left—and sorted alphabetically for reference at right. The nomenclature used to denote the individual cereal product panel is (left to right) the brand (i.e. GN for Grape Nuts) and size in ounces along with the number of the first card on the panel. The next page will present combined cereal product totals.
